Hukkok, Judaean High Priest Meets Alexander the Great
One interpretation of this scene is that it depicts the Judaean high priest meeting Alexander the Great as he marched on Jerusalem. Other interpretations may also be plausible, and it may well represent a calf-offering to the high priest by a king or general of another nation. The image is from a mosaic on the floor of a synagogue discovered at Huqoq, the Biblical Hukkok (Joshua 19:34) or Hukok (1 Chronicles 6:75). It apparently dates to the 4th or 5th centuries AD.
