Assessing the Ukraine Situation - 02-28-2014

What follows are the rough notes which were prepared and employed for this presentation. They are of course incomplete, and not all of the notes were used. I thought I should post them here nevertheless. There may be a Saxon Messenger editorial which follows. These notes were made prior to the development of certain events discussed in the program.

BRIEF Discussion of Ukranian National politics:

Ukranian Presidents:

1st — Leonid Kravchuk (1991–1994): A Communist Party politician all his life, he declared Ukraine independent from the crumbling Soviet Union in 1991. The Soviet bureaucratic infrastructure was retained. Kravchuk was not a freedom-lover or an innovator, but was rather a compromise between Soviet traditionalists (conservatives) and reformers.

After leaving office, Kravchuk joined a business and political group known as Kiev Holding or the Dynamo Group. This group, led by oligarchs Viktor Medvedchuk (pro-Soviet Ukranian lawyer) and Hryhoriy Surkis (Ukranian Jew businessman and politician), is formally organized as the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (marginalized since Orange Revolution). Despite its formal centrist/social-democratic slogans, the party is widely associated with big business, organized crime, corruption, and media bias.

2nd — Leonid Kuchma (1994–2005): Had a careeer in aerospace engineering and was a Communist Party member since 1960, in 1976 he was the Communist Party chief at the plant where he worked, and a Ukrainian Central Committee member. By the end of the 1980's he became a Communist critic. He entered Ukrainian politics in 1990, and he was Prime Minister under Kravchuk. In Kuchma's first election, he had little support in Western Ukraine, but in his second he had strong support in the west, while losing support in the east. This means that he gained popularity among the more Ukrainian Nationalist western districts after his first term in office. While he signed a trade and cooperation treaty with Russia, he also talked about Ukranian eligibility for membership in the EU by 2011. His political career was marred by a collection of tapes which were allegedly of Kuchma discussing high-level criminal activities, including corruption and murder. Charges were thrown out due to questions of the tapes' authenticity and a lack of supporting evidence.

According to a Wikipedia article on Kuchma: "One of the taped conversations refers to the Saint Petersburg Immobilien und Beteiligungs AG, a company suspected of facilitating Saint Petersburg mobsters, Colombian drug lords, and transcontinental money laundering. Vladimir Putin was one of the company's advisers from 1992 until he was elected as President of Russia in 2000. On the tapes, Kuchma discusses Putin's Europe-wide operation to get possession of all documents that could be used as evidence."

One Prime Minister under Kuchma, Pavlo Lazarenko, allegedly stole $200 Dollars from Ukraine, did 6 or 7 years in prison in the United States for money laundering, wire fraud and extortion, and last I can find he is sitting on a ranch in California. None of the western governments ever try to return stolen oligarch monies to Ukraine. Under the thumb of politicians and foreign governments alike, with the Media entirely in Jewish Oligarch hands, Ukraine is held captive for the profits of a few. The Oligarchs can safely keep their money abroad, and stay in Ukraine bleeding the nation dry. These things are never an issue in the western media. The EU especially, does not want to face threats of gas cutoffs from the Russians.

The so-called Orange Revolution occurred when election results regarding Kuchma's replacement were challenged. Viktor Yanukovych was Prime Minister under Kuchma. Yanukovych is also the president who was just run out of office this month. Running in 2004 to replace Kuchma, after the second round of voting on 22nd November 2004, there were indications that Yanukovych had won the election by fraud, which caused the opposition and independent observers to dispute the results, leading to the Orange Revolution. Kuchma was urged by Yanukovych and Viktor Medvedchuk (the head of the presidential office under Kuchma, the Ukranian lawyer and partner of the Jew oligarch Surkis) to declare a state of emergency and hold the inauguration of Yanukovych. Kuchma denied the request, and Yanukovych publicly accused Kuchma of a betrayal. Kuchma refused to officially dismiss Prime Minister Yanukovych after the parliament passed a motion of no confidence against the Cabinet on 1 December 2004. Soon after, Kuchma left the country. He returned to Ukraine in March 2005. In political retirement, Kuchma said in October 2009 that he would vote for Victor Yanukovych at the Ukrainian presidential election in 2010, the election that Yanukovych won. In a document dated 2 February 2010 uncovered during the United States diplomatic cables leak, Kuchma in conversation with United States Ambassador to Ukraine John F. Tefft, called the voters' choice between Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko during the second round of the 2010 presidential election as a choice between “bad and very bad" and praised (the candidate eliminated in the first round of the election) Arseniy Yatsenyuk instead. [RIGHT NOW Yatsenyuk SEEMS TO BE THE LEADING CANDIDATE FOR PRIME MINISTER] As of September 2011, Kuchma still believed that Yanukovych was the real winner of the 2004 election. Many American NGO's were operating in Ukraine during the Orange Revolution, and many Ukranian-Americans were involved. Russians, as well as some western commentators, believe that the CIA and other western agencies were responsible for the Orange Revolution because Yanukovych is strongly pro-Russian and America wanted a Ukranian President who would stay on the course of bringing Ukraine into the EU.

What is plainly evident in all of this, is that Kravchuk, Kuchma, Yanukovich, and the oligarch- politicians Medvedchuk and Surkis are all political bed-fellows. These people have been running Ukraine for nearly all of the time since it gained independence in 1991.

3rd — Viktor Yushchenko (2005–2010): After the Orange Revolution succeeded in forcing new elections, Yushchenko defeated Yanukovych by a margin of 52-to-44. Running for re-election in 2010, he only got about 5% of the vote. He was poisoned and disfigured after an assassination attempt in 2004. Yushchenko was Governor of Ukraine's central bank from 1993, and Prime Minister under Kuchma from 1998 to 2001, but he was Kuchma's surprise second choice, since the first candidate was not ratified by the congress. Yushchenko began his banking career in 1976 and he was a career Soviet banking bureacrat from 1983 until 1991. Pandering to Jews in the 2004 election is a good indication of Jewish power and influence in the Ukraine. It is admitted by Wikipedia that "Yushchenko built his campaign on face-to-face communication with voters, since the government prevented most major television channels from providing equal coverage to candidates. Meanwhile, his rival, Yanukovych, frequently appeared in the news and even accused Yushchenko, whose father was a Red Army soldier supposedly imprisoned at Auschwitz during the war, of being 'a Nazi,' even though Yushchenko actively reached out to the Jewish community in Ukraine and his mother is said to have risked her life by hiding three Jewish girls for one and a half years during the Second World War."

So even though Yushchenko was supposed to be an alternative, he was also an old-time Soviet Party operative who was in most respects no different from his predecessors. However Yushchenko represents the liberals among the Ukraine oligarchs, and his Prime Minister was Yulia Tymoshenko, another liberal who is herself considered to be one of the oligarchs. Among his political objectives were proposals to implement IMF reforms and to join the EU, both representing a surrender of sovereignty.

Yushchenko also had close ties to the oligarch David Zhvaniya, former Head of the Agitation and Propaganda department in the USSR Communist Party Central Committee. Yushchenko accused Zhvania, who is even the godfather of one of Yushchenko's children, of involvement in his dioxin poisoning, while Zhvania boldly claims that Yushchenko falsified his poisoning, which was scientifically documented in Switzerland and elsewhere. The case has never been settled.

In 2002, Yushchenko, his later Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Oleksandr Moroz of the Socialist Party of Ukraine and Petro Symonenko of the Communist Party of Ukraine issued a joint statement concerning "the beginning of a state revolution in Ukraine". The communists later stepped out of the alliance, however the other three parties remained allies until mid 2006. This is one plain indication of the political sentiments of Yushchenko and Tymoshenko. Among Yushchenko's first major appointments was Petro Poroshenko, the oligarch and billionaire businessman, to Secretary of the Security and Defense Council.

In 2005 former president Kravchuk accused exiled Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky of financing Yushchenko's presidential election campaign, and provided copies of documents showing money transfers from companies controlled by Berezovsky to companies controlled by Yushchenko's official backers. Berezovsky confirmed that he met Yushchenko's representatives in London before the election, and that the money was transferred from his companies, but he refused to confirm or deny that the money was used in Yushchenko's campaign. In August 2006, Yushchenko appointed his onetime opponent in the presidential race, Viktor Yanukovych, to be the new Prime Minister, after his Party of Regions won the Parliamtentary elections. So much for the "Orange Revolution", because all of these politicians are in bed together.

4th — Viktor Yanukovych (2010–2014): Yanukovych had a couple of criminal convictions as a youth, which he was charged with having expunged illegally, and even his numerous academic credentials are all said to be fraudulent. He has the military rank of major, and there is no known record of military service. He was governor of Donetsk Oblast from 1997 to 2002, and he was Prime Minister under both Kuchma and Yushchenko. Historically Yanukovych's foreign policy objectives gave lip service to the idea of Ukraine as a member of the EU, while on the other hand he is a Russophile, wanting even to have Russian accepted as a second state language in the Ukraine. He resisted NATO membership and insisted upon mixed military cooperation with both NATO and Russia. Recently, however, Yanukovych rejected a pending EU association agreement in favor of a Russian loan bailout and closer ties with Russia. His party, the Party of Regions, has much of its power base in the east and the Crimea, where Russian-language speakers are in the majority. As much as 35% of the population of Ukraine are said to be native Russian speakers, but not all Russian speakers are Russians. They are concentrated in those regions.

The Western media is promoting the idea that the primary objective of the Euromaidan protestors is EU membership. That is not true. While many of the liberals taking part in the protests seek EU membership, just as many were nationalists who want Ukranian independence. The most common sentiment, however, is an end to the corruption of the Soviet-era bureaucracy, and the virtual control of the country by corrupt oligarchs. The oligarchs are the primary opponents of the demonstrators.

A general account of what led to the demonstrations is this: Russia bribed Yanukovych not to sign an association agreement with the European Union, promising a $15 billion loan in return for a policy of repression in Ukraine. After accepting the loan, Yanukovych illegally forced legislation through parliament that was closely modeled on similar laws in Moscow restricting freedom of speech and assembly. Right after the Kremlin freed up a $2 billion installment Yanukovych ordered the shooting of protesters. This infuriated many citizens, and especially the nationalists, and led to increased protests. The goverments of the west are trying to characterize the reasons for the protests as Yanukovych's refusal to sign the agreement with the EU, however that is only a side issue. Oppression and corruption in Ukraine is the real reason for the protests. In the meantime, the Russians are accusing the protestors of being “fascists” and “nazis”, none of which is true.

Political groups in power in Ukraine before the Government was dissolved:

Government (140 seats)

Party of Regions (128 seats) - Russophone and Russophile, it is really an amalgamation of parties with diverging interests. Maintenance of Soviet-era politics and corrupt bureacracies seem to be the main charges of the people against this party. The pro-Russian parties binding creed is the defeat of Fascism and Nazis.

Non-affiliated (12 seats)

Opposition Parties (309 seats)

Communist Party of Ukraine (32 seats)

All Ukrainian Union "Fatherland" (88 seats) - in spite ot the name, this is the liberal opposition party of Yulia Tymoshenko and Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Tymoshenko came to renown during the so-called "Orange Revolution" and was appointed PM by President Viktor Yushchenko

Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform (42 seats) - CENTRIST party headed by the boxer, Vitali Klitschko - anti-Corruption but in favor of Association Agreement with EU Klitschlo and Yatsenyuk have already (February 1st) had high-level meetings in Munich, and was pictured with John Kerry. Klitschlo is not a militant nationalist. He is only a centrist.

All-Ukrainian Union "Svoboda" "Svoboda" (36 seats) - National Socialist-leaning Party

Non-affiliated (111 seats)

Ukranian Divisions:

Most people in the eastern border provinces and the Crimea favor Russia, and almost all of the people in the Crimea speak Russian. As much as 35% of the population is Russian. Most native Ukrainians are not favorable to Russia. Border relations between Ukraine and Russia are said to be very antagonistic. However an old-line pro-Soviet bureaucratic class still dominates eastern Ukraine and the Crimea. Ukrainians have hoped that these latest anti-corruption protests would spread to Russia.

Right Wing Nationalist Groups In Ukraine:

Svoboda (Freedom Party), the largest Nationalist party in Ukraine. They have 36 seats in Parliament and have had roles in government in the recent past.

Two other groups, Right Sector and Common Cause, are relatively new and have no representation in Parliament.

Pravyi Sektor (Right Sector) - about building a new Europe, with Ukraine as a start. By some accounts, Right Sector does not associate itself with Ukraine's largest nationalist party, Svoboda, which it considers to be too liberal and conformist. By other accounts, Right Sector does not associate itself with Svoboda because Svoboda is “racist”. The Right Sector group is more anti-left, and they are not racial nationalists. It is comprised of a mix of Russian and Ukranian speakers. Some of the phrases which the Right Sector used to describe what they stand against are good. First, to describe the current political form, they use the phrase "corrupt marginal democracy". Second, they stand against "degeneration and totalitarian liberalism". They also use descriptions such as "cult of illicit gain and debauchery". Their hope is to begin the revival of the Kyivian Rus, followed by the revival of Europe.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0bc3HLqj80

Spilna sprava (Common Cause but better UNION OF THE RIGHT) - Another new NS Party with no representation yet.

Ukraine does not need EU or Russia, President sent riot police against students who wanted reform. Students pro-Europe, in favor of what they see as a more civil society - but many of the students are liberals. The Nationalist movement is also made up mostly of youth, and while they favor Europe because they are anti-Russian, they do not favor EU membership, and would rather keep Ukraine independent. Strong nationalist movement in western, central and northern Ukraine - (Svoboda) Freedom party is NS and in the last election got over 30% of the vote in several regions of the west, with 6-to-18 % in central and northern Ukraine. Svoboda received only 1-to-4% in the regions with the most Russian speakers.

Svoboda's leader has already asked to not be considered for a Ministers office in the new government. They plan on remaining in the opposition, and hope to emerge from the next Parliamentary elections as the largest party in Ukraine.

Ethnic Russians On Nationalists:

There was a big meeting in Sevastopol earlier this week, with ethnic Russians chanting to the central adminstration there "Nazi..Nazi...Nazi..." Ethnic Russians there want to go with Russia, not because they want to be with their ethnic peers (as Ukrainians are Slavic whites), but because the Ukrainian nationalists are so-called Nazis, and the pride of the ethnic Russians is their victory over the facists. The only way out of such a mess would be if there were ever a nationalist uprising in Russia. Ukranian nationalists hope that this is a real possibility.

The Interim Government:

Batkivshchyna or the All-Ukrainian Union "Fatherland" / "United Opposition" Party: THIS IS THE PARTY OF RECENTLY-APPOINTED PM Oleksandr Turchynov: In January 2005 Tymoshenko became Prime Minister of Ukraine under Viktor Yushchenko's presidency. Tymoshenko had been one of the leaders of the Orange Revolution that had made possible Yushchenko's presidency. Oleksandr Turchynov is basically tied into the same party background as Yulia Tymoshenko and these people are tools of the oligarch establishment or they are oligarchs themselves. They are west-leaning liberals and the activists are not happy with them. Even a Klitchko-Svoboda center-right coalition can only muster 78 votes out of a Parliament of 450!!! The President was only ousted becRussophiles they are not going to go over to the centrists or the nationalists. Rather, most of them went over to the All Ukrainian Union, which is why an interim President, Turchynov, was chosen from that party. This is also ostensibly why Tymoshenko was released from prison immediately. With Yanukovych ousted as President, the formation of an interim government, and new Presidential elections not held until May, essentially the demonstrators are neutralized until then, because of the appearance that something is being done. So it will be wait-and-hold, who knows how the media may sway people by then. Surely the demonstrators forced out Yanukovych, but essentially the Parliament is still the same except that the party of one group of oligarchs combined with the party of another group of oligarchs, and neither the Nationalists nor even the Centrists cannot do anything about it.

Breaking News Today (THURSDAY:)

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-02-26/yatsenyuk-named-ukraine-prime-minister-as-default-battle-looms.html

Bloomberg: “Arseniy Yatsenyuk won the support of Ukrainian protesters in Kiev to lead an interim cabinet...” (This is Western propaganda)

The records say Yatsenyuk is a Catholic, but some Ukranians think he is a Jew.

Russian Military Action In Crimea:

Russian sabre-rattling in order to discourage the rise of Ukrainian nationalism resulting from the recent success in ousting Russian-friendly ex-President Yanukovych. Will it escalate?

The Election Expectations

The appointed President is only their until the elections are held at the end of May. It is predicted that Klitchko the ex-heavyweight boxer will win.

Because most of Party of Regions ministers either quit or defected under the pressure of the protests and the initially harsh and violent reaction to them. These ministers being mostly Russophiles they are not going to go over to the centrists or the nationalists. NEWS MEDIA and Government responses to demonstrations in Ukraine:

RT calls Right Sector a "radical nationalist opposition group" http://rt.com/news/ukraine-right-sector-militants-210/

RT laments removal of Soviet icons throughout Ukraine http://rt.com/news/ukraine-monuments-nazi-symbols-645/

International Business Times on Svoboda:

http://www.ibtimes.com/euromaidan-dark-shadows-far-right-ukraine-protests-1556654

The most controversial element of the anti-government alliance is Svoboda (Freedom), an extreme right-wing political party that not only has representation in parliament, but has been dubbed by its critics as a neo-Nazi organization. Britain’s Channel 4 News reported that Svoboda has assumed a “leading role” in the street protests in Kiev, with affiliated paramilitary groups prominently involved in the disturbances. Svoboda flags and banners have been featured in the demonstrations at Kiev’s Independence Square. During the continuing street riots, one Svoboda MP, Igor Myroshnychenko, created an iconic moment of sorts when he allegedly helped to topple the statue of Vladimir Lenin outside a government building, followed by its occupation by protesters. However, despite its extremist rhetoric, Svoboda cannot be called a "fringe" party – indeed, it currently occupies 36 seats in the 450-member Ukrainian parliament, granting it status as the fourth-largest party in the country. Further, Svoboda is linked to other far-right groups across Europe through its membership in the Alliance of European National Movements, which includes the British National Party (BNP) of the United Kingdom and Jobbik, the neo-fascist, anti-Semitic and anti-Roma party of Hungary. The leader of Svoboda, Oleh Tyahnybok, who has appeared at the Kiev protests, has a long history of making inflammatory anti-Semitic statements, including the accusation during a 2004 speech before parliament that Ukraine is controlled by a “Muscovite-Jewish mafia.” Miroshnychenko also called the Ukrainian-born American film actress Mila Kunis a “dirty Jewess.”

The Demonstrations

Some reports estimate about 150 people killed. Better reports estimate 350 people killed or missing. Of those officially recognized as having been killed, only about 15 have ties to Nationalist parties.

The Actual Fighting:

Svoboda was definitely the most visible group amongst demonstrators and anti-government combatants. However they were far from alone. The demonstrations and fighting could best be described as a PRIMITIVE REACTION AGAINST CORRUPTION with AVERAGE CITIZENS JOINING RIGHT-NATIONALISTS RESULTING in a GRASS-ROOTS UPRISING. The Majority of people protesting were not Nationalists, but most were sympathetic to the Nationalist cause. They used mostly fireworks, molotovs, and other primitive weapons. There was no real organizing force behind the actual demonstrators, outside of local cooperation, and the demonstrations transcended party affiliation.

Demonstrating Nationalist groups were resisted by Oligarchs who used paid crowd infiltrators, anti-Nationalist rabble-rousers, paid subversives to make the Nationalists look bad in order to undermine the demonstrations. Many of them were from the Crimeas and eastern border areas dominated by Russians. Paid provacateurs, paid thugs, cage fighters, from the east brought in to ruin the demonstrations were themselves overthrown. Here there is news that demonstrators were being paid, but the only demonstrators that were being paid were the ones sent in by the oligarchs to pervert the demonstrations and obfuscate the matter!

This is the sort of fighting that went on for about 2 months on and off.

Battle for Independence continued

Published on Feb 18, 2014 / On Independence Square in Kiev last battle between the "Berkut" and protesters. People continue to arrive. "Berkut" uses light and noise grenades and firing of guns. For their part, defenders of the square correspond to "Molotov cocktails" and cobblestones.

Videos that were put up by a regular journalist not aligned with nationalists. But very good coverage of what actually was going on.

White Nationalists Misconceptions:

This is how WNs here look at Ukraine now:

At nest, the Daily Stormer is confusing what Parliament does with the objectives of the demonstrators

Unedited Comments From Michael In Ukraine:

That is for sure, there are jews involved in it at different levels. It is not a pure nationalist movement, yes. But, it is mostly jewish oligarchs that are the subject of much of the discontent. On the other side, there are plenty of jews on the Russian side, even some Ukrainian jews in the East of Ukraine are supporting Russia. Most notably the Mayor of Kharkov Gennardy Kernes (son of one Lazar Kernes). Here is the mayor's wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hennadiy_Kernes This jew Kernes last week held a meeting in the East of Ukraine promoting the division of Ukraine and the East going over to Russia. But, by far the majority of this movement is normal Ukrainians just reacting against bullshit corruption. Mostly caused by jews. The largest Russian pretention to this movement is that the protestors are nationalists, and they fought and beat nationalists during the soviet times. The brown and black ribbons being held by the Crimean people are ribbons representing the soviet victory over the "facists". So those opinions of so-called WNs in the US are ill-informed.

An important point is that it was Ukrainian nationalists that fought against both sides in WWII, and in some cases fought with the Axis forces. In the Right Sector video you will note he made mention of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. That was the army in WWII headed by Bandera. Look him up and refer to him in the discussion. The Russians have labelled the protetors as "Banderaovtsy" and facists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepan_Bandera

Incomplete Skype Conversation with Michael (some fragments removed for notes made here):

Michael : yes, there is quite a lot of asiatic gene pool in Ukraine/Russia. I would say about 40%

Michael : AH, thats Klitchko's party

[ William Finck: so he seems like a compromise for the Right if they support him, is that why you think he will be PM???

Michael : As said earlier, I think he will be President. Yes, he is a compromise at present. Not ideal, but a better option than the previous theives.

Michael : I think that Yatsenyuk guy will be Prime Minister. A jew.

Michael : the nationalists obviously don't like him..

Michael : I know. it's not hard to get confused with this lot. Turchinov is in the Tymoshenko party "Fatherland" (a good name for a nationalist party, but they are unfortunately a liberal group), but he is a senior member only.

Michael : he was just given the position of Speaker of the House, and under the constitution the Speaker fulfils the role of President if the President is not existing.

William Finck: ok. I see Klitschlo and Yatsenyuk have already (February 1st) had high-level meetings in Munich, I see a picture of them with John Kerry.

Michael : yes. The Svoboda head was there as well. And Svoboda was a signatory on the peace deal.

Michael : as well as Klitchko and Fatherland

Michael : So, as you see, the nationalists were a part of a wider fight. They did most of the hard muscle work, but in the end it was a wide group of centrist folk that fought.

Michael : Svoboda will obviously have the most, and they may end up the largest party in Ukraine at the next elections.

William Finck: so Svoboda will be the party to watch in May.

Michael : yes

Michael : Ah, in May it is presidential elections. The Parliamentary elections are later in the year.

William Finck: oh..... so the establishment parties can try to retain their positions while it looks like something is being done

Michael : I don't think the populace will forget too fast who did the hard work on the ground. So Svoboda should be the majority or a much stronger party at the next elections.

William Finck: Well, I will keep an eye on all of this, because Ukraine seems to be in better shape as far as WN is concerned. The Golden Dawn is all sand niggers.

William Finck: and WN elsewhere is a joke, or at least helpless.

Michael : Just another point. Although the official death number is about 150. There are many reports that about 350 are missing.
